Two Men Remanded In Custody Over Newcastle Murder

Two men have been remanded into custody after appearing in court charged with the murder of Jamie Evans in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Corey Hughes, 20, and Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, both from Newcastle-under-Lyme, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court today after being charged on Monday evening (7 September).

Hughes has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place, while Cartlidge has been charged with murder.

Both men have been remanded in custody and are next due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 13 November 2026.

A 38-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jamie Evans' death and are appealing for anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward.
