Air Ambulance Called After Boy Reportedly Hit By Car Outside School

Emergency services were called to the incident, with the air ambulance also attending the scene.

The incident happened at around the time school pupils would normally be making their way home, with the D&G Public bus understood to have been due at around 4.01pm, since the MH1 school bus service has been suspended.

It is understood the boy was involved in a collision with a car on Newcastle Road. The extent of his injuries has not yet been confirmed.

The incident comes amid ongoing concerns from parents over the withdrawal of the MH1 school bus service serving pupils travelling to Madeley School.

Parents say 71 students previously relied on the service, which was operated by Pauls Coaches before its contract was not renewed.

The school had temporarily continued operating the service using its own funds, but that support ended on Tuesday 8 September. Parents were subsequently asked to pay £1,000 per year, or £100 per month, per child.

Only 37 families agreed to the proposed cost, resulting in the service being withdrawn.

Parents have raised concerns about the impact this could have on pupils travelling to and from school, particularly families who cannot afford alternative transport and Year 11 students approaching their GCSEs.

Staffordshire County Council is being urged by parents to look at the situation and help find an affordable and safe transport solution for the affected pupils.

There is currently no suggestion that the road incident was connected to the withdrawal of the school bus service, but the timing has highlighted the concerns being raised by parents about how pupils will safely travel home from school.
