The warning comes after the Congleton and Alsager neighbourhood policing team, alongside a safer schools officer, carried out parking patrols at local primary schools.

Police reminded drivers that many schools have yellow zig-zag markings and clear 'no stopping' signs outside their gates.

Stopping on the markings during restricted times can result in a fixed penalty notice.

Officers say the restrictions are there to keep school entrances clear, improve visibility for children and parents crossing the road and help traffic flow during the busy school run.

Patrols are expected to continue throughout the school year, with officers warning that they will visit different locations on different days and at different times.

And with ANPR technology capable of recording vehicles simply by driving past, some are asking whether councils could use the technology to catch offenders more widely.
