Hanley Pound Bakery closes suddenly leaving another empty shop in the city centre

The Pound Bakery on Parliament Row has had its shutters down for several days, with the shop now appearing to have closed permanently. The sudden closure has come as a surprise to customers, with no advance warning of the decision given to the public.

It is understood that staff were given just two hours to collect their personal belongings and leave the shop before it closed on Saturday. The closure follows the permanent shutdown of the Pound Bakery store on Castle Walk in Newcastle-under-Lyme only a couple of weeks ago, meaning two familiar local branches have disappeared in a matter of weeks.

The Hanley closure adds yet another vacant shop to the city centre, at a time when the high street continues to face challenges. Pound Bakery is understood to have closed a number of branches across the country in recent weeks, with Newcastle-under-Lyme among those already affected.
