15 new SEND places to open at Stoke-on-Trent school next week
A Stoke-on-Trent primary school is set to open a new specialist provision for children with special educational needs as the new school year gets underway.
Alexandra Junior School on Meir Road, Normacot, has been approved to establish a 15-place SEN unit for Key Stage 2 pupils, with the new provision due to begin from 1 September 2026.
The change was formally approved by the Department for Education as part of its latest decisions on significant changes to schools and academies.
The new unit will provide additional specialist places within the mainstream school, giving children with additional needs access to dedicated support while remaining part of the wider school community.
The decision comes as schools across Stoke-on-Trent prepare to welcome pupils back following the summer holidays.
Alexandra Junior School currently caters for children aged between seven and 11 and is part of The New Guild Trust. The school is based on Meir Road in Normacot and currently has a capacity of more than 200 pupils.
The creation of the 15 places is part of wider efforts to increase specialist educational provision and ensure more children can access appropriate support closer to home.

With the new academic year just days away, the new SEN unit is expected to be ready to welcome pupils from September.
