The former Iceland store in Hanley has begun to disappear just months after closing, as demolition gets underway to make way for the next phase of the Etruscan Square regeneration project.
The former Iceland supermarket in Hanley is being demolished – just months after the store closed its doors.
The Charles Street store closed permanently on April 25th, bringing an end to its time serving shoppers in the city centre. Now, barely four months later, the building is being pulled down as the site is cleared for the next stage of Hanley's regeneration project.
Demolition work began this week, with the building expected to be completely removed over the coming weeks.
The demolition forms part of the plans for the £20 million Etruscan Square regeneration project, which will see the area transformed with new homes and public space.
For many people in Hanley, the speed of the change is striking, a supermarket that was still trading earlier this year is now being reduced to rubble.
