Schools across Newcastle-under-Lyme are making their final preparations ahead of the start of the new academic year, with pupils set to return to classrooms over the coming weeks.

The September return will see schools welcoming back existing pupils as well as new starters, including children beginning primary school and pupils moving up to secondary education.

While the exact return date varies between schools, many local schools have scheduled staff training and INSET days before pupils return. Newcastle Academy, for example, will welcome Year 7 pupils on Thursday, September 3, followed by Year 7 and Year 11 on Friday, September 4, before all students return on Monday, September 7.

Other schools in the area have their own arrangements. Bursley Academy in Bradwell has two INSET days on September 1 and 2, with pupils returning on Thursday, September 3.

For families, the final days of the summer holidays are often a busy time, with school uniforms, shoes, stationery and other essentials being prepared ahead of the new term.

Parents are being encouraged to check their child's individual school's website or communications for the exact return date, as academy and trust schools can set their own term dates and training days.

At Newcastle-under-Lyme School, for example, the autumn term officially begins on Thursday, September 3, following staff training days on September 1 and 2.

With the new school year now just around the corner, classrooms are being prepared and staff are getting ready to welcome thousands of children and young people back across the Newcastle-under-Lyme area.
