A small homeless camp has reportedly been set up on land behind the car park at Aldi in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The camp is located close to the rear of the Aldi store on Blackfriars Road and next to the Morrisons area in the town centre.

People in the area have raised concerns after tents and belongings appeared at the site, with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council now made aware of the situation.

At this stage, it is not clear how long the camp has been there, how many people are staying at the location, or what action the council may take.

The presence of a homeless camp also highlights the wider issue of people experiencing homelessness in Newcastle-under-Lyme and the importance of ensuring that those sleeping rough are offered appropriate support.

Aldi's Newcastle-under-Lyme store is located on Blackfriars Road, close to the town centre. The supermarket has previously supported local organisations working with homeless and vulnerable people, including The Lyme Trust and other community organisations.

Six Towns Daily understands that the council has been made aware of the camp and will seek an update on what action, if any, is planned.
