Local man clears up crash debris after red BMW smashes into tree in Newcastle

A Newcastle-under-Lyme man has been praised after taking matters into his own hands and clearing up broken glass and plastic left behind following a crash involving a red BMW.

The incident happened on Hoon Avenue on Wednesday evening, August 26, when the BMW crashed into a tree, leaving debris scattered across the road and around the tree.

At the time, Staffordshire Police attended the scene and the road was closed while the incident was dealt with. The crash followed an earlier collision involving the same BMW on Silverdale Road in Wolstanton. Local dog walkers who witnessed the incident called 999, with the vehicle later found abandoned.

But after the emergency response had ended, broken glass and pieces of plastic from the vehicle remained at the scene.

Local resident Mike Boulton subsequently went down to the crash site and cleared away the debris, helping to make the area safer for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

A message thanking Mike on a local Facebook Group said: Many thanks to Mike Boulton who went down to the crash site and cleaned up all of the broken glass and plastic, which was left by the tree and on the road, after the car smash. Cheers Mike, that was really good of you.

It is a simple gesture, but one that can make a real difference following a road collision, particularly when broken glass and vehicle debris are left on a public road.

The original crash caused a road closure on Hoon Avenue, with police at the scene and drivers advised to find an alternative route. At the time, there were no confirmed details of injuries.

Mike’s actions have now earned him praise from local residents for taking the time to clean up the aftermath and help leave the road safer for everyone.
