Stoke-on-Trent Diagnostic Centre Wins Recognition for Making Healthcare More Accessible
Stoke-on-Trent's new Community Diagnostic Centre has been named Highly Commended at the RICS Awards 2026, recognising its impact on local communities and efforts to bring vital diagnostic services closer to home.
A new diagnostic centre in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent has been recognised for the positive difference it is already making to local people and communities.
The Stoke-on-Trent Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has been named Highly Commended in the Community Benefit category at the RICS Awards 2026 (West Midlands).
The award recognises the centre's role in bringing important diagnostic services closer to home, while also highlighting the partnership work behind its development. Local residents, community representatives and people with lived experience were involved in decisions around the design, accessibility and environment of the new facility.
The project also provided opportunities for local people during construction, including careers events, school visits, training opportunities and work experience placements for young people.
Located in Hanley, the CDC was launched in May and is expected to provide around 180,000 additional tests and scans every year for people across Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and surrounding areas.
The centre was delivered through a partnership between University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) and Wesleyan Assurance Society and forms part of a national NHS programme designed to improve access to diagnostic tests, reduce waiting times and support earlier diagnosis.
Simon Wilmore, senior capital project manager at UHNM, said: "I'm incredibly proud of everyone involved in delivering the CDC. This project was delivered against a challenging programme yet the team consistently demonstrated professionalism, clear communication and a strong commitment to quality."
Dr Ann-Marie Morris, Deputy Medical Director at UHNM, said the purpose-built facility and its location in central Hanley would provide a more accessible and welcoming service for patients.
The recognition comes as the new centre begins playing a major role in expanding diagnostic capacity across the local area and bringing services closer to the communities that need them.
