The Old Post Office in Burslem has confirmed the tragic death of doorman Liam Smith, saying the pub's team has been left "devastated" and sending its thoughts to his family and loved ones.

A Burslem town centre pub has paid tribute to one of its colleagues following his tragic death at the weekend.

The Old Post Office, on Wedgwood Street, Burslem, closed early on Saturday, August 29, after police and paramedics attended the venue.

The pub has now confirmed that Liam Smith, who worked as one of the venue's doormen, has sadly passed away.

In a message shared on social media, The Old Post Office said its team had been left "devastated" by what had happened.

The venue stated: "Just wanted to thank everybody for the messages of condolence following the tragic loss of our staff member Liam on Saturday. We, as a team, are all devastated with what unfolded and our thoughts are with Liam's family, friends, and loved-ones at this time."

Liam was a familiar face at The Old Post Office, working as part of the door team at the popular Burslem pub.

The Old Post Office is a long-established community venue in the centre of Burslem, hosting live music, events and other activities.

Messages of sadness and condolences have also been shared by members of the local community following news of Liam's death, with tributes describing him as a well-known member of the venue's team.

At this stage, no details have been released regarding the circumstances or cause of Liam's death.
