Demolition Of Fire-Damaged Longton Building Set To Go Ahead Next Week

Demolition of the fire-damaged building on Market Street, Longton, is set to begin next week, with a section of the road closing for several days.

Road Closed Sign

Demolition work on a fire-damaged building on Market Street, Longton, is now set to go ahead next week, with part of the road due to close for several days.

A section of Market Street near Times Square will be closed from 7pm on Thursday 24 September until 3pm on Sunday 27 September while a specialist contractor carries out the demolition.

Buses heading towards Bentilee and Meir which normally call at Market Street will instead use Longton Bus Station during the closure.

The demolition had previously been postponed after the contractor was unable to proceed. The work has now been confirmed, with businesses affected by the closure being contacted directly.

The former commercial premises suffered two fires late last year. Since then, building inspectors have continued to monitor the site and raised concerns over the safety and stability of the remaining structure.

Further updates are expected as the demolition work progresses.
