Newcastle-under-Lyme Council Reviews Single Person Council Tax Discounts
Newcastle-under-Lyme residents receiving a single person Council Tax discount are being urged to return review forms promptly, with discounts potentially removed if forms are not completed.
Residents in Newcastle-under-Lyme who receive a Council Tax discount for living alone are being reminded to respond if they receive a review form from the council.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is currently reviewing single person discounts to make sure they are still being claimed correctly. The council says anyone who receives a review form should return it promptly to help keep their discount in place.
The single person discount is available when only one person lives at a property. Residents can apply for the discount through their online Council Tax account, with the council asking for details including when they became the sole occupant and information about anyone aged 18 or over who has moved out.
The council has warned that if a review form is not returned, the discount may be removed. Residents are also reminded that they must tell the council about any changes to their household circumstances that could affect their Council Tax or entitlement to a discount.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council also says that failing to notify the authority when someone is no longer entitled to a discount can result in a £70 civil penalty in certain circumstances.
Anyone who has received a review form is therefore being encouraged to complete and return it as soon as possible to avoid potentially losing their single person discount.
