CrossCountry train cancellations affect Stoke-on-Trent after major power cut
Passengers travelling by train from Stoke-on-Trent are being warned of major disruption today (Sunday, August 23) after CrossCountry cancelled services across almost its entire network.
The disruption follows a power cut in Birmingham which has affected the building housing CrossCountry's control centre. A number of systems used by staff to manage trains are currently unavailable, meaning the operator is unable to run its normal service.
The disruption directly affects Stoke-on-Trent, with CrossCountry services normally calling at Stoke-on-Trent station as part of its wider network linking Birmingham, Manchester and other destinations.
CrossCountry says services across almost all of its routes will be withdrawn until further notice today, with only services between Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport expected to operate close to normal.
Passengers travelling from Stoke-on-Trent are therefore advised to check their journey before setting off and consider alternative services where available.
CrossCountry has said that ticket acceptance is in place with other train operators, while passengers who decide not to travel can apply for a refund from their original point of purchase. Customers affected by delays may also be entitled to compensation.
The operator apologised for the disruption and said teams are working to operate as many services as possible using alternative processes.
